LCBO Wines $10 or Less: February 2020
Updated: May 25
As you know, this year I challenged myself and my husband to spend less across the board, even when it comes to trips to the liquor store, or as it's known in Ontario, the LCBO. I set a $10 or less spending limit per bottle of wine, yikes! But so far, so good.
So, without further ado, I bring you February's picks!
Our white wine pick for February is Fantini Farnese Chardonnay. This is a medium-bodied, aromatic and flavorful Chardonnay from Farnese Vini SrI in Abruzzo, Italy. This wine rates an XD (extra dry) on the sweetness scale and its alcohol percentage is a 12.5. This pairs well with with raw and/or lightly cooked shellfish as well as other fish entrees and pastas. I'm pretty picky about my chardonnays since they can be a bit on the beer-ish side if they aren't a good quality, but this one impressed me considering it's at such a low cost range. The cost CAD is $8.90 (about $6.63 USD) which makes this a fantastic buy.
Our red wine pick for February is LAB. This is a full-bodied red blend of syrah, cabernet, and touriga nacional grape varieties, from Casa Santos Lima in Portugal. This blend offers up a smoothness you'll definitely appreciate and rates a D (dry) on the sweetness scale with an alcohol percentage of 13. This is a perfect wine to pair with all things BBQ and grilled meats as well as cheeses, which makes it a great choice to take along to the next family/friends gathering. The cost CAD is $9.80 (about $7.30 USD), and it won't disappoint! This is one of my husband's favorites from Portugal, and he recommends it to friends and colleagues all the time.
A note about March's wine picks... we have given up alcohol for Lent, so next month's picks were tested durning February's tastings and will be posted per usual, at the end of that month. You're going to love them! As usual, if you live in Ontario, and have any suggestions for LCBO wines we should try for $10 or less, leave a comment below! And even if you don't live in Ontario and you have suggestions, please feel free to comment below. We'll do our best to find them in our LCBO stores.
Until next time, sip responsibly & cheers!
